So not going well, nothing done this month. But I have a couple big ones wrapping up in a few months. I graduate in September! My car will also be paid off this year. So two pretty major ones.

My dad is also going to make me a set of clothes lines. This weekend I’ll be planting the first of my garden, cabbage is going out and I have tomatoes and sweet corn to plant also. I also have pumpkins, potatoes and pickles to go out. So a decent canning garden!

I have to modify one of my tasks, volunteer at the Humane Society. I make regular supply donations to them, but I try to never go past the lobby. Its painful to me and we are full.  6 is the limit! So I have decided to change it to volunteer with the USO on 3 events. (This a random number I asked Chuck to give me.) I have two events coming up this month that I’ve volunteered for, the Coast Guard family day next weekend and the Monthly Breakfast at the Navy Base on the 23rd. Gives me a great reason to bake!!

So I’m coming along but slowly. I have lots of plans but no funds! I still need to figure this darn new printer out to scan my pictures and finish my recipe box. (We both hate it!)

Say a prayer for me and keep me in your thoughts as I continue my canning adventures and to get things done! Happy Mother’s Day!

1001 Books to Read April Update

So April’s to a close. Its going fast! I was tickled to finish 4 books this month. I was especially happy to finish The Return of the Native by Thomas Hardy, it seems I’ve been working on it for months. It was a slow read for about half of the book then it really picked up and finished well.

I also read two books by Philip Roth, Portnoy’s Complaint and The Human Stain. Both were pretty good. I really enjoyed The Human Stain.

I also finished The Lord of the Flies by William Golding. This was a revisit as I had read it in high school. A great look at human nature.

I have lots of books to read and I’ve had some great successes lately in finding the books I need. At my favorite book store, she had The Wold According to Garp by John Irving! I also found at the library For Whom the Bell Tolls by Hemingway and Possessing the Secret of Joy by Alice Walker. I have discovered that I love Alice Walker, her books are divine.

So all in all a good month, that has revived me for the next go round. I’m currently reading Sabbath’s Theater by Philip Roth and Possessing the Secret of Joy by Alice Walker. The Alice Walker book will be finished if not tonight then tomorrow. I can barely put it down. Sabbath’s Theater is raunchy, I mean I read romance for many years, but this is dirty. So its been a  bit of a slow read. Not my favorite Philip Roth thus far.

I have from the library to read: On Beauty Zadie Smith, Ben Hur Lew Wallace, American Pastoral Philip Roth, For whom the Bell Tolls Hemingway, The Light of Day Graham Swift and Possessing the Secret of Joy Alice Walker.

So I sit right now with 35 books read. I’m 10 books behind. Bummer.

1001 Books To Read Before You Die March Update

So I’m still reeling from the aftermath of The Unconsoled and The Plot Against America, it was a rough month. I’ve made good progress this month still behind, but coming on. I read The Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger, Aesop’s Fables, The Mayor of Casterbridge and Far From a Madding Crowd both by Thomas Hardy.

This sits me at 31 books read, I’m 9 books off my goal, counting April. So not terrible, but not great.

I’m currently reading Return of the Native by Thomas Hardy and Portnoy’s Complaint by Philip Roth. I’ve read 4 Hardy books now and Return of the Native is my fifth and its starting really slow. I’m dragging through it. I figure one out of five isn’t bad odds though. The Mayor and Madding Crowd were both great reads and went pretty quickly.

This is the second Philip Roth I’m reading, I like his books, but The Plot Against America was just a slow read. I’m blazing through Portnoy’s Complaint I expect to have it done either tonight or tomorrow at the latest. Its an interesting read.

I have to read from the library currently:

On Beauty Zadie Smith

The Human Stain Philip Roth

Sabbath’s Theater Philip Roth

Ben Hur Lew Wallace

Again I’m disappointed that I can not find two Hemingways on the shelf! For Whom the Bell Tolls and To Have and Have Not, makes me mad I want to finish him up. I’ll have to break down and request at the desk. I have some books to drop off so I’ll do that in the next few days. Happy reading and Happy Easter!

Well, its been a  slow month. I’m pretty bummed about it. I did get one task accomplished, I got new eyeglasses, which is a big accomplishment!! My eyes are pretty bad so my glasses aren’t cheap.

On a great note, I graduate with my degree in three months! That’s another huge task off my list! So excited!! I’m in the midst of finals as I write this. I took probate tonight and have Bankruptcy and Administrative Law tomorrow. I’ll be a paralegal, I love the law. Its useful!

So where I’m going from here for April, I’ll be starting my garden. What I’ve decided to do is to share garden space at my parent’s in the country and plant some odd veggies at my house. That way I can have a bigger garden for canning and my parents can try some new things I want to plant.

I’m also getting tired of jigsaw puzzles I’ve only completed 4 in the past month and a half, so I’ll be bringing up my Warhammer Army and working on painting them. They are in miniature so its an adventure.

All I know for sure is that I need to get my rear in gear if I want to stand any chance of completing my list on time. Its getting to be crunch time, one year down. I want this to end on a good note and complete my list! Happy Easter!
